What is "smash and grab"?
“Smash and grab” is the media term used to describe the process of a burglar breaking (smash) through a window or glass door in an office home or retail store, and removing (grab) valuables like computers, tools, jewelry, confidential business information…all within a matter of minutes.

How does GLASS-GARD work to help prevent “smash and grab”?
GLASS-GARD works by having the film form a molecular bond to the glass that holds it together, even after multiple impacts. The glass while it may be broken or cracked, remains adhered to the film and in most cases is still intact inside the frame.

Can GLASS-GARD be penetrated?
Yes it can, as with any form of security system. However, it does take significant time. Time is the most important asset and liability that a burglar has to rely on.

Is GLASS-GARD bullet proof?
GLASS-GARD is not meant to replace bullet-proof glass or lexans. Although in the certain combinations of glass thickness and film thickness GLASS-GARD has proven to stop some low caliber bullets under unique circumstances, it is not intended for this use.

Should I use GLASS-GARD instead of an alarm?
GLASS-GARD is another form of security available to the consumer. Each case of theft is different. There is no single answer, however using both is the best bet. Motion sensing alarms detect that a burglar is already inside your home or establishment allowing them access to valuables. GLASS-GARD has no detecting capabilities but limits a potential burglar from gaining access to begin with.

Top of FAQ's

Does GLASS-GARD work well with alarms?
GLASS-GARD when used with certain glass break detector alarms or shock sensors, is optimal. If a potential perpetrator attempts to break in via the window or glass door area, the alarm can be tripped, therefore adding an element of shock to the burglar by already being detected without having gained access. Repeated attempts create more noise and take more time. Since most “smash and grabs” take place in mere minutes the resultant time delay and noise factor is generally sufficient to scare off most would be thieves in favor of easier targets.

Which GLASS-GARD product should I use?
Use the chart from the below or consult a GLASS-GARD dealer who can also provide you with a free estimate. Generally speaking, the best film for the job is the thickest with the most number of plies or layers. Take into consideration budget constraints, for it may be better to use a thinner film with an alarm versus spending your whole budget on GLASS-GARD.

How much does GLASS-GARD cost?
GLASS-GARD varies in price depending on thickness of film versus difficulty of installation. Generally speaking GLASS-GARD can be installed from $4 - $12 per square foot of glass.

How can GLASS-GARD protect me in such natural disasters as earthquakes?
During explosions or natural disasters flying glass is often the greatest contributor to human injury and fatalities. GLASS-GARD can help prevent these injuries by helping to keep the glass intact inside it’s frame.

What are the specifics of the warranty?
All GLASS-GARD safety/security window films have a limited manufacturer’s warranty against change of colour, peeling, bubbling, rippling, cracking, adhesive failure, delamination and demetaillization, when installed by an authorized installer. Film warranty periods are for ten years. See an authorized installer for full details.
